WHAT TO BRING
- Water bottle and/or Reusable Mug: There will be some disposable cups but please help us save Mother Earth and avoid waste by bringing your own water bottle and coffee mug.
- Tent & Groundcloth. You absolutely, positively MUST have a tent, although we encourage people to share. If you do not have a tent please let us know ASAP so that we can make arrangements. If you are bringing or buying a tent please note that while a two-person tent, sleeps two, it will probably not accommodate two people and three days' worth of gear. We suggest you select a tent that is rated for at least one additional person. E.g., bring a three-person tent if you are a party of two. You should be aware that you must also lay down some kind of ground cloth under your tent: a tarp, heavy-duty plastic sheeting, or model-specific footprint.
- Sleeping Bag. It gets c-o-l-d up there in the hills! You will need to bring a sleeping bag rated for 40° F or below.
- Mattress Pad or Air Mattress. A mattress pad is a foam or inflatable mat (similar to a yoga mat), that cushions and insulates you from the cold, hard ground. An air mattress is essentially an air bed. It is much heavier than a mattress pad and requires an air pump to inflate. While air mattresses are much more comfortable than a mattress pad, they have a tendency to leak.
- Change of Clothes. Be sure to bring at least four (4) days change of clothes. You should be sure to bring both warm weather (summer) clothes, cool weather (fall) clothes, and swimwear.
- Flashlight/Headlamp. News flash! Outside of New York City it gets dark at night. You may find a headlamp like the Petzl Tikka is more practical than a hand-held flashlight. You might also want to bring additional batteries as appropriate.
- Footwear. Hiking boots or rain boots, water shoes/aqua shoes and quick-drying sneakers (synthetic materials sí, canvas no). Extra socks are a very good idea.
- Towels & Toiletries. If you are participating in waterfront activities you will probably want to bring extra towels, clothesline and clothespins. Remember that we are staying at a campground and not a hotel; you will need to bring your own soap, shampoo, etc.
ITINERARY
Friday:
- Meet fellows in Port Authority and take the bus! Gate will be provided soon. Upon arrival we set up tents. Ask for help if you need it. Great Practice.
- Dinner cooked by two incredible chef/fellows (great opportunity to do service by helping prep BTW) followed by a campfire meeting.
Saturday:
- Breakfast and an early morning meeting is prepared. Lunch supplies are laid out under the giant tent. Pack your lunch and store it in a cooler for later.
- Buses to the launch site around 10am! Be prepared to let us count you, the camp ground needs the final numbers.
- LAZY RIVER RAFTING! Finally, right? There will be leaders with the lunches, so try not to pass them, that will guild you to the lunch spot.
- Buses back to shower.
- Dinner and a meeting. Followed by lots of laughs and ball busting because one raft definitely passed the lunch leaders.
- Don't go to bed though, its not done! Campfire songs, maybe 2am belly dancing lessons, and mafia. So you can continue working your 9th step amends no matter how many 24's you have.
Sunday
- Breakfast followed anniversary meeting.
- Camp breakdown. We have a lot to breakdown from our personal belongings to the large tents. Jump in and do service!
- Lounging, swimming, volleyball, or anything until lunch and the bus arrives!
